The Wishing Well Project: mission, outline, introduction, etc.

DESCRIPTION: An eight-week program designed for children ages 5 to 8 with the goal of helping them discover and create their own unique characters. Children will become comfortable portraying those characters in front of their peers and eventually an invited audience of their parents.

GOALS: To strengthen communication skills, increase empathy and self-confidence, engage the creative process, and awaken the dramatic imagination.

DATES: January 15-March 7

FINAL PERFORMANCE: The program will culminate in a final performance on the Friday following the last class session. Children will perform their own original scenes, based on the unique characters that they have created, for an audience of their families and members of the community. This performance will give the students the chance to share their newfound skills, as well as the interests and aspirations that those skills will have helped them discover, with those who wish them well.

LOCATION: The Community Human Services Corporation (CHSC), South Oakland.
